SWINDON College Old Boys director of rugby Martin Lloyd says he has a selection headache ahead of the weekend’s top-of-the-table clash with Drifters.

The Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier leaders go into the game fresh from their Southern Counties Senior Vase final triumph over Tadley last weekend and while Lloyd was delighted with the performance, he admits it will be a difficult to choose a side after such a strong display last time out.

“It was great to see the substitutes come on and play so well. The couple of people who came on made it look like there wasn’t any transition at all,” he said.

“We weren’t a weaker side with the people who came on from the bench, so selection this week is going to be a nightmare, as it always is.

“Some people will say from a coaches perspective it is a nice problem to have, which it is but that doesn’t help the players who aren’t being selected.”

Following their perfect record, College Old Boys are 20 points clear of second-placed Drifters in the division but Lloyd expects his team to approach the game with respect.

Drifters themselves have a decent record with just two defeats so far this season and were 43-18 winners over Abingdon last weekend.

Lloyd will be forced into making one change as Greig O’Brien is unavailable, with Kevin Scott coming in to replace him at number 10 after he impressed when called upon during their Vase success.

“Greig’s not playing on Saturday. He has shown really good leadership qualities so we are going to miss him,” added Lloyd.

“Kevin is a young player coming through with a lot of potential so he is going to be given the opportunity on Saturday.

“We are looking forward to it because it is another tough test and they’ve been going well.

“They were in the same league as us last year so we know what they are about and we know they are a tidy side.

“If you don’t show proper respect to teams then that lack of respect could come back and bite you.”
