SWINDON head coach Sean Lynn knows his side must raise their game again if they are to continue to drag themselves away from the danger zone in South West One East.

The Greenbridge Road chief admitted his side were fortunate at Ballards Ash last weekend as Jordan Sheppard’s last-gasp try secured a 20-17 win over Royal Wootton Bassett.

The victory was Swindon’s fourth on the spin and has lifted them to 10th place in the table, putting a 23 point gap between themselves and bottom-of-the-league Reading.

However, with only eight points separating the seven sides above Reading, Lynn is all too aware that his side are far from out of the woods as they prepare for a tough encounter at fourth-placed Witney, a side who inflicted a 41-12 defeat on Swindon back in November.

“It is a compliment of the league really that anyone can beat anyone,” said Lynn. “That win for us on Saturday was huge and I’m hoping momentum is swinging our way at the moment.

“Witney away is a tough game but the boys; we have got a good group of boys now and they are doing extra training in the week so hopefully everything is coming to plan.

“I think we are trying to look at each game, rather than the bigger picture, and Witney away is going to be a big one.

“It is always tough for us and they up there game when we face them and we have got to up our game from last Saturday’s performance.

“It’s all about momentum in a game and those little things going your way. We scraped it last weekend but your luck can only get you so far.”

Last Saturday’s game also took its toll on Swindon from an injury point of view, with Lynn being forced to play a number of his troops out of position by the end of the match.

However, while he was anticipating some bruised bodies at training this week, Lynn is optimistic that his backroom staff will have as many of them back on their feet by the time they line-up tomorrow.

“The boys are going to have a lot of knocks from last weekend’s bruising encounter,” he added.

“The physios we have got for the players, the work rate they do is outstanding for the boys.

“The extras they put in on Tuesday and Thursday nights, is top class.”
