SWINDON College Old Boys were able to make up for last weekend’s shock defeat as they thumped Hungerford 85-0 at home.

Martin Lloyd’s side suffered their first defeat of the season against second-placed Drifters a week prior, but proved lightning doesn’t strike twice with a convincing win.

Charlie Grabe, Damon Murphy, Tucker Blinkhorn, Matty Allen, Greg O’Brien, Florin Palcau, Joe Smedley and Dan Cooper all crossed the line, while Grabe and Palcau shared kicking duties.

“It was a really good weekend and a really good performance. The guys put some of the stuff we had been working on into practice,” said their director of rugby.

“Things just fell back into place. Hungerford had a slightly weakened side but we were good all across the board.

“To be fair to the players, it was payback for all the hard work over the week. We had 100 per cent attendance for training on Tuesday and Thursday, which was phenomenal.

“It’s testament to their attitude. We started off like a steam train. Our forwards were firing and our backs were lining up.

“We worked really hard in defence and just concentrated on trying not to give penalties away. Obviously, like anybody, we had a few blips but generally, it was a good performance.”

Lloyd also praised Blinkhorn, who scored twice as well as being provider for second row Murphy.

“Both from Damon and one from Charlie were the work of Tucker Blinkhorn who played really well. He allowed Murphy to just fall over the line and the veteran made the most of it,” he added.

“He scored two himself, so it shows what influence he had. He was very good in defence and as the season is going on, his fitness work is starting to pay off. He looks very strong.”

The result means College are 16 points clear at the top of the Berks/Bucks & Oxon Premier.

Meanwhile, Supermarine lost 38-5 away to Minety in the Dorset and Wilts One North, leaving them second-bottom in the league.
