CHISELDON wing Jonny May is savouring his first Six Nations winners’ medal, but admits he has work to do to re-establish himself at the forefront of England coach Eddie Jones’ thinking.

The Gloucester flyer started the championship wins against France and Italy and was a replacement against Wales, but was axed from the squads that thrashed Scotland and then lost to Ireland 13-9 on Saturday.

Former Ridgeway School pupil told Gloucester’s website: “First and foremost, it’s obviously a great experience to be a part of that squad at the moment, in terms of the players and the coaching team that we’ve got, and our objective to become the best team in the world.

“The defeat in the last game was disappointing, but we’ve still got to celebrate what we’ve done as a team and the fact that we’ve won the Six Nations.”

He added: “Personally to miss out on the last two games was disappointing and frustrating. But I still feel that I can take a lot out of that Six Nations from being in that environment and learning from it.

“Eddie said to me that I train well but where’s it been in the games? We spoke about not having much opportunity in terms of what I got on the wing, but both agreed that can’t be an excuse for not having an impact upon the game.

“So, it’s about finding ways into the game when the ball isn’t coming your way and that’s going to be ultimately through support lines and kick chase. That’s what I have to work on.”
