SWINDON College Old Boys will be hoping that they can upset one of the Southern Counties South title favourites as look to record their first win of the campaign.

Head coach Mark Lea was left frustrated that the Pipers Way outfit’s return to Southern Counties level began with an 18-10 defeat at Blandford last weekend.

And while College will welcome back a number of players who missed last Saturday’s loss, Lea know that they will have their work cut out against Swanage and Wareham.

“It is a game for us,” Lea said. “Swanage and Wareham have been at this level for a number of years and finished third last season.

“We have got a lot of players coming back – we had 18 players who were unavailable last week – and it is going to be a bit of a selection nightmare.

“We have also got 33 players who are available for our seconds so we have got some tough decisions to make.”

Having seen around 15 new players join the club over the summer including former Royal Wootton Bassett winger Scott Douglas as well as England deaf international Liam Rowe and back rower Yestyn Harris arrive from Supermarine, College will be without new fly-half Connor Tomley for around another month as he recovers from a broken foot.

Bassett, meanwhile, will be also be eager to pick up their first win of the campaign when they go to Oxford Harlequins.

Alan Low’s side have had a tough opening two weeks in South West One East having faced two sides – Old Centralians and Old Patesians – who harbour hopes of returning to the National Leagues.

Bassett lost 36-17 at Old Cents on the opening day of the season before suffering a 16-3 reverse at Ballards Ash to Old Pats.

Quins, meanwhile, lost their opening game of campaign – at Old Pats – before defeating Witney 15-6 last Saturday.

Swindon will be hoping to build on last weekend’s 15-9 success over Marlow when they head to Gloucester to tackle an Old Cents side who were beaten 40-17 at Salisbury in the previous outing.

In Dorset and Wilts One North, Supermarine will be targeting to build on their winning start to the campaign when they host Melksham.
