St George draw a thriller

SWINDON St George finished a thrilling encounter with Southampton Spitfires - with whom they shared second spot in the Rugby League Conference London & South Division - locked at 42-42.

The teams traded tries early on with Swindon’s Danny Morgan, dummying left and stepping through the gap in the defensive line to go under the posts.

Ashley Brown kicked the conversion, but sloppy penalties gave Southampton the lead before Danny Morgan crossed for his second.

Again Swindon eased off and and Southampton took full advantage to score three tries in 12 minutes.

But Mike Thompson then went through a gap to score under the posts for St George.

Three tries in five minutes, with Thompson and Morgan both completing their hat-tricks, allowed Swindon to level and they took the lead with 10 minutes left when Thompson scored his fourth.

However, with three minutes to go, Southampton levelled.
