SUPERMARINE joint acting head coach Sean Millwaters is expecting his side to bounce back from defeat at Chippenham 2nds when they look to maintain their promotion challenge at home to Avonvale tomorrow.
Marine are currently third in the Dorset & Wilts 1 North table, but are the leading candidates for promotion because they are the highest placed first team in the league.
Millwaters is hoping the narrow loss is only a temporary hiccup, and is looking for his side to put things right against the Bath side.
“I think we played well in the Chippenham game but didn’t manage to come away with the result. Avonvale are a different kettle of fish though,” he said.
“If we play to our game plan we know we are capable of beating them, and I fully expect us to do it because it is a game we should be winning.
“They are good at home and have been on some good form lately, but we are the home side and I hope that will help us.”
Minety will be hoping to continue to put pressure on Supermarine at the top of the table when they host Bradford-on-Avon. Minety beat rock bottom side Bath Saracens in their last match, and now sit only three points behind Millwaters’ side.
Elsewhere in the league, Fairford continue to look for their first win of the season when they host Calne, who are comfortably in mid-table.
In South West 1 East, third placed Swindon host Witney in a game they need to win to keep the pressure on Coney Hill and Cheltenham at the top of the table.
Neil Loader’s men were not in action last week, and will be looking to pick up from where they left off in their 33-18 victory over Marlow last time out.
Witney are only six points back in seventh place, and are also on good form following a 53-11 win over High Wycombe, setting up what should be a close game at New Pavilion.
Chippenham host third placed Redingensians in National 3 South West looking for their first win in three matches, while Cricklade face Melksham 2nds in Dorset & Wilts 2 North.
