MANAGER Glyn Evans is urging supporters to turn out and watch his Swindon Town Ladies side in action in the Women’s FA Cup this weekend.
Town Ladies are the only Wiltshire outfit left in the competition and they take on Exeter City Ladies at the Weir Field, Wroughton on Sunday afternoon (1pm) for the right to progress into the second round proper.
“A lot of people in Swindon have watched England Women’s internationals at the County Ground, but other people still don’t view the women’s game as they should,” said Evans.
“If they came long and watched they would be very surprised at the standard. People who have come down have been impressed at what we’ve done and achieved.”
It has been a highly positive season for Town Ladies so far, as the team is fourth out of 10 teams in the South West Women’s Combination League, with their division including sides from the likes of Gloucester, Forest Green and Southampton.
“We’ve got strength in depth this year and have got both experienced and younger players,” added Evans.
“Confidence and team morale is high and this is the best season we’ve had in quite some time, “We’ve already got more points than we had last year already, and I can’t praise the girls highly enough for how hard they are working in training.”
Swindon, who beat Bridgwater 5-1 in the previous round of the FA Cup, welcome new signing Abbie Picton into squad this weekend.
Exeter may be a division down on the Robins but Evans added: “They have only lost once in their league this season, so they will give us a good game.”
