MINETY lost out 24-17 away at Pewsey Vale in a hard-fought Dorset & Wilts One North encounter.
The visitors were pinned back in their own 22 for much of the opening quarter, before conceding a penalty try after Andy Brown illegally pounced on the ball.
Minety opted to employ an expansive game to battle the home side’s big pack, and they soon were rewarded as Luke Radcliffe dived over.
A successful conversion levelled the score, but a powerful run from the Pewsey hooker made it 12-7 at the break.
The home side scored twice while Ward was in the sin bin to seal the victory, even though Matt Hooper and Wes Clamp were able to cross for Minety to set up a nervy finish.
Minety’s second XV were in superb form, despite only having 14 men, as they beat Melksham 3rds 51-0, scoring nine tries on the process.
