THE Swindon College Old Boys squad will be urged to learn from their mistakes as they prepare to travel to Hungerford in the Berks/Bucks & Oxon Premier this weekend.
The Berkshire side currently sit bottom of the table, but Old Boys manager Martin Peaple has warned his players not to take them lightly after suffering with over-confidence earlier in the season.
“We went down to play East Dorset in a cup game earlier this season, and they were not in our league but we had played them a lot of times over the last 20 years,” he told the Advertiser.
“We were very confident of winning because we had never lost to them in that time, but we went down there with the wrong attitude and we did manage to lose it.
“It is easy to get into the wrong frame of mind for games like this, so we will try to avoid that and I am sure the players will be reminded of that game before this one.”
When the two sides met earlier in the season the Swindon side came out 37-10 winners, and Peaple is hoping for a similar result but is expecting a tight clash.
“We played quite well to beat them earlier in the season, and since then they have not really managed too many wins. But they have not really suffered any heavy defeats either, and they are actually quite a strong team.
“They have quite a strong set of forwards and if the weather stays as it is then they will look to use that to their advantage. We have some good forwards too, though, so if it is wet and boggy then I am sure it will end up being a game for the forwards.
“Our forwards have been putting in some good performances, and that has suited the backs too because they have been getting a lot more quality ball to work with.”
