Summit meeting to finish for Bassett

WOOTTON Bassett skipper Dave Floyd has dismissed his side's chances of stealing the Southern Counties South title from Trowbridge tomorrow as "very unlikely.'' The two sides meet at Stoneover Lane in the last league match of the season, in what for a long time looked like it would be a division decider.

Trowbridge though, are sitting pretty two points clear at the top of the table and, although Bassett could draw level with victory, the west Wiltshire side's superior points difference means they are all but mathematically champions already.

Should Bassett pull of an astonishing 90-point success, the silverware will be theirs.

The home side though, will probably concentrate on fine-tuning their game ahead of an upcoming Southern Counties promotion play-off against Olney or Wallingford.

That issue will also be decided tomorrow in Southern Counties North, where Swindon end their league campaign with a trip to Grove.

After a slow start, Paul Daniels' men have come good since Christmas and should start next season among the favourites.

Elsewhere, veteran Jules Gidzinski could appear for the last time in Swindon College Old Boys colours tomorrow.

The prop forward could retire after College's home match with Abingdon.

In Dorset & Wilts One North, either second-placed Minety, who travel to third-placed Calne, or leaders Bradford, who host Trowbridge 2nd, will win the title.

And Cirencester, still in danger of relegation from the Gloucestershire Premier, need a result against North Bristol.
