HOME hero Tai Woffinden is desperate to keep the feel-good factor going at Wolverhampton when they host the British Final at Monmore Green this evening.

Woffinden is the overwhelming favourite to win his first ever British title after going agonisingly close last season, and is in the form of his life having dominated the Elite League to take Wolves to the top of the table and risen to a career-high fourth in the Grand Prix standings which sees him only five points off the lead.

The Scunthorpe-born racer knows he is riding well as he bids to win his first national title, but is equally aware that anything can happen when it gets down to the final.

He said: “Things are going so well both for me and for Wolverhampton right now and it would be so cool to keep that going on Monday.

“It would mean so much to me to win the British title but it all boils down to one ride, one race, 60 seconds, anything can happen.

“It should be a great night and hopefully I can pull it off, but it will be tough.”

Meanwhile, former Robins number one Scott Nicholls admits home favourite Woffinden is the man to beat in tonight’s event, but still believes he can claim his eighth national crown.

The defending champion broke Barry Briggs’ record when he took the title at Monmore Green last season, and is optimistic of further success despite home man Woffinden being a strong favourite having kicked off 2013 in scintillating form.

Nicholls said: “Tai is in the best form that I’ve ever seen him in, and it’s his home track so he’ll be going there full of confidence.

“But I’ve said it many times before, it all comes down to that one race – you can go through the card but it still comes down to the final. He’ll be up for it but there’s a lot of other boys going for it, me included, so we’ll have to see what happens on the night.”
