ALUN Rossiter has insisted the play-offs remain a realistic proposition for his Swindon side as they bid to keep their good run of form going against Leicester this evening.

The Robins have beaten both of the league’s top two, King’s Lynn and Poole, over the last two weeks and now lie four points off Eastbourne in fourth following the reshuffle in the table to account for the loss of Birmingham.

With 14 meetings still to go and his side coming into a purple patch of form, Rossiter is confident of making a run for the post-season, but he knows they need to keep up their high standards if they are to pip the likes of the Eagles, Wolverhampton and Coventry to make it in.

“The play-offs are the main goal and we always said we would be going for it,” he said.

“I’ve never given up on getting there and we’ve been going pretty well recently. We haven’t had that many home meetings and we’ve been a little sporadic and seven rain-offs don’t help.

“Of course we want to get in the play-offs, we set the team up to do that and if we keep picking up results there’s no reason we can’t get there.

“Simon (Gustafsson) had a bit of a poor start to the season but he’s really firing now and if we can all do that we can get there.”

While Rossiter is confident his side can do the business against the lowly Lions tonight, he is refusing to allow complacency to creep in.

“You don’t take anyone lightly but yes, I’m confident,” he said.

“We’ve had two wins over two very good teams recently but you can’t switch off because it does come back and bite you. We should have beaten Wolverhampton at home, but we didn’t, so that’s the one we need to remind ourselves of.”

And just as was the case when the Lions last came to town, Rossiter is well aware of which riders pose the biggest threat.

“Like I’ve said before, they have a lot of riders who go well at Swindon,” he said. “Doyley (Jason Doyle) and Mads (Korneliussen) are both riding really well at the moment and can be very dangerous so we will need to be at our best to win.

“Nicolai (Klindt) is coming back with a point to prove too so it should be a hard meeting.”
