SWINDON’S star reserve Steve Worrall is hoping that he and his Robins team-mates can douse themselves with determination once again as they look to take their final step into the Elite League play-offs at basement boys Belle Vue tonight.

The Robins gave their top-of-the-table rivals a demonstration of their full potential as they hammered rivals Coventry Bees 60-31 at the Abbey Stadium on Monday evening.

Worrall suffered a crash riding for Edinburgh Monarchs in their Premier League win over Sheffield Tigers on Friday but showed no signs that his confidence had taken a knock as he chipped in with an assured 7+1 and the 22-year-old says that team morale has been key to Swindon’s end-of-season surge.

“I know how much we needed the morale (on Monday). The rest of the lads and Rosco were going crazy in the changing rooms before the meeting about how much we needed it and with Coventry coming off such an impressive win, it’s good that we won it and we can put those points towards the play-offs,” said Worrall.

“I know how good we are when we all get going. It just takes us all to get going.

“Once we start off with a few wins, you thrive off each other and the atmosphere’s a lot better. The Coventry lads are usually good with their atmosphere in the pits, looking in, and once you get knocked down a bit, everyone’s scuttling trying to find their set-up and everyone’s a bit miserable.

“Then you look over here and how people are having a laugh and that knocks you down and makes the job harder then.

“Last few weeks, I’ve been struggling with the track because it’s been a bit on the slick side and I like something holding me up and pulling me round, so when they prepared it, it was really good and hopefully it’ll stay like that for the next few weeks.

“We’ve got Belle Vue and that’s it until the play-offs. I’m sure we’ll have it all under control.”
