PETER Kildemand says that the Swindon Robins would love to get their hands back on the Elite League Speedway championship.

Alun Rossiter’s men find themselves in the end-of-season shake-up for the third successive season but have some work to do to book their place in this month’s Grand Final after slipping to a 49-41 loss in their opening play-off semi-final against at the Coventry Bees on Monday night.

Dane Kildemand, 24, starred in the Robins’ historic 2012 championship win and was also part of the side that bowed out of the semi-finals against Poole Pirates last term. But the Swindon number one doesn’t see any reason why his team shouldn’t believe that they’ll be lining up against Poole or the King’s Lynn Stars for a shot at Elite League glory later this month.

But Kildemand, who notched up two race wins on his way to a nine-point haul in Monday’s opening play-off clash, knows that his side can’t look past the challenge of Coventry.

The Robins number one is confident Swindon can overturn an eight-point gap at the Abbey Stadium next week.

“I think we should be alright really. Two 5-1s, we’re back again,” said Kildemand.

“At home, everybody scores the points and that’s really what we need. Things look great for us.

“Everybody needs to score points and we don’t have to score maximums. Seven points is good for everyone, so I think it looks great.

“King’s Lynn went to Poole earlier in the season and won there so you never know, but we’ll see what’s going on.

“Now we’re in the semi-finals but we want to be in the final – (it’s) what we have been working on all season so hopefully we’re going to be there and it would be good to have the title back.”
