SWINDON Robins manager Alun Rossiter is calling on the town to get behind the side tonight when they race for a place in the Elite League Grand Final.

The Robins return to the Abbey Stadium with an eight point first-leg deficit to overhaul and Rossiter believes that a large crowd could make the difference to his riders.

In a sport that is struggling financially, with the Birmingham Brummies pulling out of the league mid-season and Eastbourne Eagles dropping down to the National League at the end of the year, the economic boost a bumper crowd could give the Robins could be huge.

The Birmingham Brummies are looking to regain their league status next season through Tony Mole, who has a track record for saving ailing clubs.

Rossiter believes that a good turn out on Monday night from Swindon fans will set the side up perfectly for next season.

The Robins have already had a lot of support from the other sporting clubs in the town with Town, the Wildcats and some of the rugby clubs expressing their support for the speedway team on social media ahead of the must-win clash, which will in front of Sky cameras.

A heavy track at Coventry led to Swindon making several falls and mistakes which left them eight points adrift of Coventry going into tonight’s meet but Rossiter is confident his home track will be a level playing field for some great riding.

“It is going to be difficult. The Coventry riders are all going to be up for it because it is a final at stake, it is not just a ordinary meeting, “ said Rossiter, who lifted the trophy with Swindon two years ago and is desperate to have that feeling again.

“Evveryone will raise the bar and we have got to do what is needed.

“We’ve left ourselves a lot to do so we have got to take it to them from the off.

“A lot of people know we have had our financial issues in the past so to set us up for 2015 it would be great to get a big crowd in to get right behind the boys.

“I hope people can come out and get the team going, we are getting national coverage for Swindon and putting Swindon on the map.”
