SWINDON Robins rider Nick Morris says that his side felt powerless to prevent their Elite League dreams sinking into the mire.

The Robins’ play-off semi-final clash ended in disappointment as Alun Rossiter’s men were beaten 50-45 at a damp Abbey Stadium, 99-86 on aggregate.

Like the majority of his teammates, Aussie Morris was in no doubt that a sodden track played a huge role in Swindon’s demise.

“It didn’t start good with the track being totally different,” said the 20-year-old.

“Their boys were just making good starts and we were making terrible ones. There’s not much we can do – we tried our best but it wasn’t enough.

“We had a lot of rain and the track was different. The starts were like slodge and we just couldn’t get off them. Coventry were probably used to that – their track is always like slodge.

“We thought we were going to do the job, like we have been doing all year, but it just didn’t go our way from the start and they beat us on the night as well, so you can’t be doing that.

“We made the play-offs but it doesn’t mean anything. We wanted to make that final and go for the win but it hasn’t worked out and now we’re going home losers.”
