CHARLES Wright is keen to make the most of his Elite League opportunity after being picked by the Swindon Robins in last week’s Elite Riders Draft.

Alun Rossiter selected Wright from the tier one group at the event in Coventry and he and fellow draftee Lewis Rose will fill the Robins’ two lower order spots next year.

The 25-year-old has been riding for the Somerset Rebels in the Premier League for the last couple of years and 2015 will mark his first full season in the top level having previously impressed on several guest appearances.

“I’m pleased to be going to Swindon. I think it will be good for me. I do like it there and it’s a really good track,” said Wright.

“I thought it would have been Leicester or Swindon in the draft, so Swindon is a good outcome and I’m happy to go there.

“It’ll be great to work with Rosco. He loves the sport and really gets behind his riders. He’s a great person to have in the pits being such a good ex-rider.

“I could have got involved a bit more heavily in the Elite League towards the end of last season but couldn’t really commit to it but I’m going to give it my all this year.

“It’s a good opportunity for me. I felt like I had a good year last year but I need to progress now.

“I try to not really set targets and ambitions. I’m just going to go there and prove my worth and hopefully try to get into the main body next year.”

Wright joined the Rebels in the latter stages of the 2013 season and helped them win the Premier League title and Knockout Cup that year.

He will continue to ride for the Oak Tree arena outfit in 2015.

“I’ve had a good few years with Somerset and feel like I rode well. We had some good results,” added Wright.

“I’ll be back with them this year as well and that probably works out better because it’s close and it’s a lot easier with travelling.”

Wright is looking for sponsorship to help his preparations for the new season.
