WITH the 2015 fixtures announced yesterday, Swindon Robins owner Terry Russell has hinted that there could be one missing.

This is the final season at the Abbey Stadium before a big redevelopment project takes place and Russell is hoping to have a fitting send off at the end of the year.

“We’re working hard on the new facility we’re going to have in 2016. We’re looking forward to what will be the last year at the stadium,” said Russell.

“Apart from the fixtures you have already, naturally we will be planning a big one at the very end of the season for the final ever meeting on that track.

“Things are moving along nicely and the new facility will be really nice.”

Swindon start their season at Leicester Lions on Saturday, March 28 and Russell is pleased with the way the fixtures have panned out.

The first league meeting at the Abbey Stadium will be part of a bank holiday double-header with last season’s champions Poole Pirates on Friday, April 3.

In other picks of the season, Swindon will be looking for revenge over the Coventry Bees when they travel to Brandon on Friday, May 8, after losing to them in the play-offs last year.

There will be a week in August where, at the moment, Swindon could face four teams in the space of five days.

Starting with Belle Vue on Monday, August 17, Alun Rossiter’s side are provisionally pencilled in to travel to Poole on the Wednesday before a home meeting with King’s Lynn on the Thursday and another away trip to Lakeside on the following Friday night.

“They’re the sorts of things we did so that riders can come in and do three or four meetings on the bounce and then go home again and not have to come in four times on different flights to do those meetings,” explained Russell.

“They’re the sort of things we looked at to try and make it easier on the riders - we just tried to bring things together a bit.

“Riding two nights on the trot is not a problem because if they are not riding here, they are riding somewhere else.

“It gives them a bit of a break when they are not here.

“We tried to work around the home fixtures, which are fairly nicely spread out as well, and at the end of the day, it is all laid out, with the best will in the world and relying on the weather being kind.”

The Robins are still waiting to secure their last member of their team.

Peter Kildemand ruled himself out earlier this month but Russell hopes he might be available during the season if needed and is hoping that Swindon can secure a number one rider soon.

“We’re in negotiations and I think we will have it sorted fairly soon. It will probably be the first week in February the way it is looking,” added Russell.

“I am very happy (with how the team is looking). We are sorry we couldn’t accommodate Peter Kildemand.

“We hoped the way we had done the fixtures would have fitted him but as much as we tried, his mind was made up to take a rest. He did get burnt outing the middle of last year.

“Who knows- in the middle of the season, if something happened to us and we needed help, I am sure he will be able to come and help us out.”
