SWINDON Robins are still in search of a new team sponsor, with their season-opener less than two months away.

Robins boss Alun Rossiter has said there is a ‘great opportunity’ for someone to take as the Blunsdon club look to find an investor before the start of their campaign, which kicks off on April 3 with a double-header against last year’s champions Poole Pirates.

Former sponsors Excalibur Communications ended their backing of the club in November and with branding needing to be sorted before the season starts, a deal needs to be done sooner rather than later.

“At the moment, we are still negotiating with people to come on board but nothing has been finalised,” said Rossiter.

“We are still looking for a major sponsor.

“It could go better, if I am being brutally honest, but we just have to do what we can.

“It was disappointing to lose a good sponsor in Excalibur but we have to move on sadly.

“It’s just a shame because of the amount of publicity we’ve got and it’s a great time with it being the last year at the Abbey until we move to the new stadium.

“Bear in mind the amount of coverage we get on Sky, even compared to the football club, even though they are flying high - there is a great opportunity for someone there.

“The clock’s ticking because we need to get suits sorted and stuff like that.”

Swindon completed their team line-up yesterday with the arrival of Polish asset Adrian Miedzinski, who will take the number one spot.

Rossiter believes there is a lot of room for improvement in his side and if they can reach their potential, there is no reason why they cannot be challenging for the play-offs again.

“You kind of get a few doubts about it but the more I think about it, the more excited I am about this year,” added the Abbey Stadium boss.

“I think our biggest thing is Nick (Morris) and Kyle (Howarth), and if Zengi can improve on what he does, then the rest will just follow suit.

“We have two cracking reserves in (Lewis) Rose and (Charles) Wright and I think Rose will overtake some of the number ones in that position this year.

“There is bags of room for improvement but I really believe we will be challenging again this year.”
