SWINDON Robins’ rider Kyle Howarth is eager to get back on the Abbey Stadium track ahead of this weekend’s Ben Fund Bonanza meeting.

The seventh holding of the charity meeting takes place in Swindon on Sunday from 4pm and the 21-year-old is hoping to blow off some cobwebs ahead of what will be a long season for the Robins.

There have been some late changes to the final line-up for the meeting with Nike Lunna replacing Adam Skornicki, who has been unable to arrange travel to get to the meeting in time to ride for Poland.

While Adam Roynon, a rider who has unfortunately had to call on the Ben Fund a number of times, has had to withdraw as his equipment is not ready, with Kyle Newman coming in to replace him for England.

Howarth will be joined at the meeting by fellow Robins rider Nick Morris who will be riding for Australia but has said that the rivalry will be purely friendly on the track.

“It should be good and I am looking forward to it,” said Howarth.

“It is our way of paying a bit of respect back to speedway and injured riders in the past and the present.

“It is trying to make a bit of money for the fund because you never know one day you might need it yourself.

“It is the first meeting of the year and I have been practising, I’ve had a few rides, so hopefully I will be fresh and it is a fresh start to the year.

“It is an enjoyable meeting and there is no pressure because it is not serious, you can just go out and enjoy it.

“You can get rid of the cobwebs, go and enjoy riding your bike and then the serious stuff starts in a month’s time.”

Howarth is optimistic of the Robins’ chances ahead of their 2015 campaign but is aware that during a long season anything can happen.

He will be lining up with Robins number one Adrian Miedzinski, Troy Batchelor, Grzegorz Zengota, Morris, Charles Wright and Lewis Rose, and he admits that on paper it looks like a strong team.

“I am feeling good, I have had a couple of good practices in and I am looking forward to this season with a good team behind me,” he added.

“It is a solid team all the way through with some good names.

“It is a long season ahead though and you could have a good team on paper but it depends on what they do.

“We have a steady team and Rosco (Alun Rossiter) has put a good group together so if we can start well we’ll be happy.”
