SWINDON Robins boss Alun Rossiter has Grand plans for the new Blunsdon stadium.

Rossiter, who doubles up as manager of the Robins and the Great Britain side, is hoping the facility at Blunsdon can host meetings at speedway’s highest echelon, the Grand Prix series.

The specifications for the stadium were unveiled by Rossiter, MP Justin Tomlinson and Clark Osbourne of Gaming International which owns the land, yesterday to great fanfare.

The plans detailed plenty of provision for television at the new facility, a key selling point in hosting high-profile meetings.

Rossiter has been a mascot, rider, captain and manager for the Robins, and brought the Elite League title to Swindon in 2012 after a 45-year wait.

The Robins boss has a clear affection for the home of Swindon speedway.

But despite his sadness at leaving the Abbey he is excited about the potential of the new stadium.

“This is a really good thing for speedway in Swindon and for me as Great Britain manager.

“Hopefully we will have GB meetings and maybe even Grand Prix here,” said Rossiter.

“It’s good also because the diggers have just moved in for the new stadium at Belle Vue (in Manchester) so these are really exciting times for speedway.

“It will be sad to say goodbye here but we will make sure we give the place a really good send off."
