SWINDON Robins team manager Alun Rossiter was left visibly distressed after watching three of his riders taken to hospital in the opening meeting of the 2015 season against Poole Pirates.

The meeting was brought to a premature end after heat 13 with skipper Troy Batchelor, Lewis Rose and Adrian Miedzinski all being taken to Great Western Hospital.

Adrian Miedzinski appeared to be the worse of the three casualties, getting his hand caught in his own wheel after crashing from the lead in heat 13.

After a good start from the hosts the meeting took a turn for the worse in heat three. Following the third re-start with Nick Morris having already fallen, the Robins skipper got his foot rest caught in the spikes of Maciej Janowski, and was taken from the Abbey by ambulance with concussion and an injury to his rib area.

With Batchelor missing the evening got away from Swindon and they were 10 points behind when Rose became the second casualty of the evening.

Charles Wright was leading heat 12, but Rose got into trouble with Kyle Newman on the second lap and crashed out. The reserve was helped off by the on-track ambulance, and also needed to go to hospital with an ankle injury.

With Rose still receiving treatment and waiting for the second ambulance of the evening Miedzinski found himself in trouble after falling when leading heat 13.

The Pole is thought to have broken several fingers and was taken from the stadium in the track ambulance. His departure left the organisers with no option other than to abandon the meeting with Poole already holding an unassailable 47-33 lead.

"It is horrendous,” said Rossiter before heading to GWH to check on the condition of his three riders.

“I am just a bit shocked myself.

"The other two boys, they're just injuries but Adrian I am more concerned for because there is three fingers broken by the looks of it and the other is a laceration.

"It is quite serious because he got his hand stuck in the back wheel.

"Until I know the full facts from everybody I am just going to think about it, I need a bit of time.

"I am going to go to the hospital and check on them all in a minute.

"It is not good and I don't feel very good in myself.

“Lewis is complaining with his ankle, Troy smashed his head quite hard and a little bit of a rib injury so hopefully that is not too serious but you never know until we know.”
