SWINDON Robins number two Kyle Howarth will be hoping his side can put the horrors of Monday night behind them quickly as they prepare for the arrival of Lakeside Hammers on Thursday.

It was a start to the season to forget as Swindon saw three of their riders, Troy Batchelor, Lewis Rose and Adrian Miedzinski, all taken to hospital as the Robins were comfortably beaten by Poole Pirates during a meeting that had to be called off with two heats remaining.

Howarth, who himself had a solid night, scoring eight points despite having some issues with his bikes, said that there was nothing to blame for the succession of accidents and hopes that his team-mates make a speedy recovery with the fixtures already coming thick and fast.

“It wasn’t a consistent meeting and to be honest with you it was nobody’s fault, it is just how it goes sometimes,” he said on Monday night.

“It is nothing to do with Swindon or Poole or the riders, it is just one of those things and you have got to take the good meetings when you get them.

“I feel for Swindon Speedway and Rosco and the promotion because seeing Adrian go like that to add to Rose and Batch, three in one meeting is not good.

“Obviously for a first meeting it is not the best but I’m sure we’ll get there and the boys will be alright, they are tough boys.

“Hopefully we’ll have Batch back soon and all the lads back because we need them.

“We have got a busy season ahead.

“We just need to come back strong Thursday and get the winning spirit back.

“That is speedway, you have good days at work and you have bad days.

“It was a tough meeting, one we will have to forget and tomorrow is a new day and it will be the start of the season for us again on Thursday.”

Howarth went back out on the track after the meeting had been abandoned to test his bike, which had caused him problems from heat three, but he says the issue, which was electrical, has been sorted.

Despite the injury count Swindon don’t have long to recover before they host Lakeside at the Abbey Stadium on Thursday night and although Howarth does not know who will be lining up alongside him, he is confident that the Robins will be ready to challenge.

“It doesn’t matter where the track is and what type of track they ride, they are going to come here to win and we just need to be like that as well wherever we go,” added Howarth.

“They are going to be strong one through to seven.

“They have got Andreas Jonsson back haven’t they, but he is only a name, he is only human and he is beatable so we just have to do what we do and get a heat one win and go from there.”
