FORMER Swindon Robins skipper Hans Andersen admitted he jumped at the chance to ride at the Abbey again and could be around for longer than just Thursday’s meeting with Lakeside.

The Dane will be joined by another former Robin, Scott Nicholls, to guest in place of the injured Adrian Miedzinski and Troy Batchelor against the Hammers.

Miedzinski, meanwhile, has flown back to Poland to undergo surgery on his hand which he caught in the back wheel of his bike in heat 13 of the season opener against Poole Pirates on Monday.

The Pole was joined at Great Western Hospital by current captain Batchelor, who suffered concussion and a shoulder injury after crashing in heat three, and reserve Lewis Rose, who suffered an ankle injury after a coming together with Newman in heat 12.

Andersen has only been announced for Thursday’s meeting at the moment, but with Miedzinski looking like a long-term injury the Coventry Bees rider has not ruled out guesting for the Robins for longer.

When asked if that was a possibility, Andersen replied: “I could do.

“Coventry ride on a Wednesday so it could work.

“I will speak to Rosco (Alun Rossiter) and go from there but it could work out that I could ride for Coventry and Swindon because there is no clash.

“It is nice that a club wants you back to ride for them and I hope that I can do well.

“I look forward to coming back to the Abbey.

“They have always made me feel welcome and I have many friends at the club.

“It is really a good track at Swindon for me and I really enjoy riding it.

“When I had the opportunity to come back I jumped at the chance.”

The Dane is looking forward to the prospect of teaming up with another former Robin, Nicholls, and believes that Swindon have a strong line-up for the second home meeting of the season tomorrow.

Andersen won’t underestimate his opponents but admits he would rather face them than his current side the Bees.

“I would be more scared if I was riding against Coventry,” added the Dane as he dispelled any concerns that he would not be giving 100 per cent for his temporary team.

“There are some riders that take guest bookings and are not fully committed but I always go out to win every race I ride in because I am doing it for me.

“Lakeside have got a good side but I think Swindon with myself and Scotty back will be strong.

“He rode really well to win the Bob Kilby and I think with Nick Morris and Howarth the team Swindon will have will be very strong but you can never underestimate your opponents.”

Lewis Blackbird will also be riding for the Robins as he comes in to replace Charles Wright, who is riding for Premier League club Somerset away at Ipswich, with the Wolves rider drafted in as a replacement.
