SWINDON Robins made it five wins in a row at the Abbey Stadium with a dominant performance against Leicester Lions this evening.

Skipper Troy Batchelor looked back to his best after a spate of injuries so far this season, claiming three wins from six rides at Blunsdon for 11 points.

However, he was outshone by Grzegorz Zengota as the Pole claimed one more point from the same number of races.

Even the loss of number one Peter Kildemand on the morning of the meeting did not hamper Alun Rossiter’s men as Nick Morris also returned an impressive 11 points and reserve Charles Wright chipped in with a valuable haul of nine.

It was a slow start to the night for the Robins as Leicester took victory in the opening three heats of the night.

The hosts had to be content with second-placed finishes early on, with Zengota doing well to haul himself in behind Jason Doyle in the first, before reserve Wright matched that behind the fast-starting Kyle Newman in the next.

Even a disqualification for Lewis Bridger in heat three could not kick-start the Robins into life, with the Lions’ number three eliminated after causing a collision between his team-mate Rory Schlein and Swindon skipper Batchelor.

Batchelor and fellow Australian Morris were left to face Schlein on his own but could not capitalise as the Lions man romped home to an easy win.

However, the impetus Swindon were looking for was provided by reserve Wright in heat four as he led home Zengota for a maximum win. Wright produced a splendid ride to lead from tapes to flag, while Pole Zengota provided great support and pulled off a super pass on Szymon Wozniak to follow him home.

That started a run of five straight Robins heat wins, as Kyle Howarth produced a stunning ride to take the next, although it could have been so much more as reserve Lewis Rose was second for the first two laps but dropped right down.

Swindon then began to turn the screw as back-to-back maximum successes followed. Firstly, Morris led home Zengota after Lions skipper Doyle retired, although it would not have altered the outcome as he was only third before suffering a problem.

And Swindon then increased their advantage to 25-17 after seven races, as Batchelor produced an unstoppable ride to win by a distance and lead home Howarth in a one-two.

After three second-places Zengota then got his first heat win thanks to a storming start in the eighth, although Walasek held off Wright to halt the run of maximums.

Leicester then pulled off a maximum of their own in the ninth as Rose surrendered an early lead to be swamped by Wozniak and then Kyle Newman.

But the Robins were soon back in the winners’ enclosure as Morris held of Doyle in a tense duel of classy Australian riding.

Shared heats would be enough for Swindon from there on in and that’s exactly how the next three panned out.

Batchelor then pulled the Robins 10 points clear after 11 heats with his second huge win of the night. The skipper showed Lewis Bridger a clean pair of heels, Wright was next to make it two wins for the hosts as he romped clear in the 12th, although there was some concern for the Robins as Rose suffered a heavy fall late on.

Robins skipper Batchelor then put his team on the brink of overall victory with a third win of the night, giving his team a 10-point cushion with two races to go.

The captain’s countryman Morris then had the honour of sealing the overall victory, also storming to his third heat win of the evening in the penultimate race.

Doyle then took the final heat of the night to grab some consolation for the Lions although it did little to affect the overall outcome.
