TEAM manager Alun Rossiter has quashed suggestions Tai Woffinden might be ready to call time on his Great Britain career.

Captain Woffinden produced a faultless display in GB’s World Cup race-off defeat on Thursday, romping to six heat wins from six rides in Vojens for a haul of 21 points.

However, that was still not enough for them to reach Saturday’s final in Denmark, as Poland claimed victory.

In the aftermath, 2013 world champion Woffinden gave a revealing television interview, expressing frustrations with the current level of support for the national set-up from the British Speedway Promoters’ Association and hinted that he could be prepared to walk away from the team.

The rider has since released a statement saying he had taken part in lengthy discussions with the BSPA, adding that he “would love to be part of a World Cup-winning team with Great Britain”.

GB boss Rossiter said he doubts Woffinden would turn his back on the team.

“We won’t lose him, he’ll be fine,” said Swindon Robins team manager Rossiter.

“It’s something we are working on and the BSPA are working with us.

“I have to say that people are quick to criticise the BSPA but they have been really good in helping me and I’ve had no issues whatsoever. There’s nothing but encouragement from them.”

Rossiter was frustrated to have gone so close to World Cup final qualification, only to narrowly miss out, but was pleased with the efforts of his side.

Teenager Robert Lambert claimed two heat wins in Vojens and Rossiter believes solid foundations have been set for the team.

“To get so close yet again is tough but we are building for the future,” said Rossiter.

“If Robert carries on like that then I think he has got the world at his feet. He has got an old head on young shoulders.

“He is coming through well and (reserve) Kyle Howarth is coming through and has done a lot of good work this week, even if people won’t have seen him on the track.”
