SWINDON Robins have reiterated that no deal has yet been done regarding a move for Poole Pirates asset Darcy Ward.
Team manager Alun Rossiter has confirmed that the club have spoken to the Aussie rider but nothing has been signed despite reports suggesting they had reached an agreement.
With the Robins’ number one rider Adrian Miedzinski still absent for meetings in the UK following his opening day hand injury against the Pirates, and stand-in Peter Kildemand also having completed his short stay, Swindon are looking at their options to get a more permanent number one in for the rest of the season.
Pirates asset Ward, who has been serving a 10-month ban for failing an alcohol test at the Latvian GP, would be eligible to ride for Swindon in next Monday’s meeting at Leicester Lions should a deal be done before then.
However, the deal is not straightforward, with the Aussie’s 8.70 average meaning that another member of the team would need to be sacrificed for him to fit in.
The rider himself has also taken to social media site Twitter to confirm that nothing has been signed yet, but hinted that Swindon would be ‘a good pick’.
@deanb46 haven't signed nothing. Stay off they forum mate. No good. 😁

Robins chief Rossiter said: “Nothing is confirmed yet, we have asked the question if he is interested and until we know where we are going there isn’t much more I can say.
“All I asked him is if he is interested and he said he would be keen to come.
“It is not a matter of just doing it, I have got to look at all the options and until then nothing is signed or sealed.
“I am along with three other clubs that are interested.
“With Adrian not riding we need another heat leader.
“I get on great with him and with his friendship with Nick Morris it could work but until anything is signed I think people are just jumping the gun a bit.”
