SWINDON Robins team boss Alun Rossiter says the right decision was made - not only for the fans but for the spectacle of the sport - in calling off last night’s meeting with Coventry Bees.

Those in charge at the Abbey Stadium made the call early yesterday morning to postpone the meeting with the league leaders Coventry.

With weather warnings put in place for the torrential rain and lightning storms predicted for much of the south west, it seemed a wise choice to call the meeting off at the earliest possible opportunity.

With Swindon in resurgent form and Coventry having not tasted defeat in their last seven meetings, the Elite League clash was set to be a thriller, and Rossiter didn’t want that to be ruined by the weather.

“It is no point risking it and people are not going to come out in the wet,” he said.

“We got the rain later than anticipated and it came in now and was due in for the night.

“It is a good fixture against Coventry and we want to get as many people in as we can.

“There is no point just running it to get the meeting on, as it will take away from the spectacle.

“We have got a bit of time now and the boys can prepare to make the charge next week.”

The postponement also allows Swindon’s number three Nick Morris a few more days to recover from his elbow injury.

The Australian, who has missed Swindon’s last four meetings, was set to return last night at the Abbey Stadium.

Morris will now ride in Denmark, before appearing for Premier League Glasgow Tigers on Saturday, and Rossiter thinks the practice will do him well as Swindon prepare for four meetings in the space of five days.

The Robins travel to Belle Vue on Monday as they continue to scrap for a place in the play-offs, before a trip to second-placed Poole on Wednesday.

“Nick is riding out in Denmark, so he is having a skid there, which should be good for him,” he added.

“Then he is riding at Glasgow Sunday ahead of what will be a busy week for everyone.

“I am sure it will help him to get back in the swing of things after a couple of weeks sidelined with his elbow injury.

“As long as you have got your trapping head on at Belle Vue, it is not rocket science. You have got to attack it.”
