NEW Swindon Robins signing Aaron Summers is hoping to shine as he comes in to replace struggling Eduard Krcmar.

The 19-year-old Czech rider has failed to settle in British speedway since his arrival alongside Darcy Ward at the beginning of July, forcing team manager Alun Rossiter to react.

Summers, who knows Rossiter from his time with Coventry Bees and rides with Nick Morris in the Premier League at Glasgow Tigers, is hoping to be the difference as Swindon look to secure a play-off spot.

“I am excited to be joining up with Swindon,” he told the Advertiser.

“Last year I only rode the Premier League, which didn’t help because I wasn’t riding enough.

“I have doubled up in the league before, but haven’t had the best of machinery, which hasn’t helped.

“This year I have spent a lot on new engines in the last few months and my form has picked up and plenty of people have noticed that.

“I think that is maybe what urged Rosco on to sign me up and hopefully I can do the business now I’m here.”

The arrival of Adelaide-born Summers takes Swindon’s contingent of Australian riders to five and he believes that may play a key factor in the Robins’ push for the play-offs.

“With a few of the Aussie boys already in the team, we all get on really well and it would be good to all be in there together,” he added.

“It would be good to get in the play-offs with Swindon and it looks like I will be in the play-offs with Glasgow so it should be good and will keep me busy.”

Summers will be thrown straight into the action this evening as the Robins travel to Belle Vue Aces, to kick off a week of four meetings, but that doesn’t faze the Aussie.

“The amount of meetings doesn’t bother me, I would rather ride every day,” said Summers, who might take some time to get used to an Abbey track he has only ridden at once.

“The more I ride the better I ride, so it will be good for me to get straight into the action this week.”
