SWINDON Robins shined brightest as they dwarfed the Stars, handing their Elite League play-off hopes a shot in the arm with a dominant victory over King’s Lynn tonight.

Alun Rossiter’s Robins were rampant at the Abbey Stadium and ruthlessly eclipsed their visitors at the Abbey Stadium, with Darcy Ward, Aaron Summers, Grzegorz Zengota and reserve Charles Wright all starring.

Summers got his Abbey Stadium love affair off to a sparking start as he marked his home debut by chasing down, and eventually passing, the Stars’ Nicklas Porsing to support Ward’s opening heat win with third-place.

Nick Morris and Batchelor blazed a trail in heat four, dispatching the King’s Lynn guest duo of Freddie Lindgren and Dakota North with consummate ease, before Zengota showed off his awesome speed at the Abbey with stirring heat wins in the fourth and sixth races of the night.

Batchelor and Ward dovetailed in sensational style in heat seven to secure the Robins’ second maximum of the evening, with the latter initially taking too much of a wide line to leave himself trailing behind Lindgren but the Swindon number one somehow found an extra gear and raced into second-place to finish the job.

Reserve Wright was swapped in for Darryl Ritchings in the eighth and repaid Rossiter’s faith by romping to victory, supported all the way by Zengota, who left Porsing and Ashley Morris eating his dust as the home side struck another hammer blow.

The Stars were forced to turn to the tactical ride in heat nine but Summers shut the door on Kenneth Bjerre, who donned the black and white helmet, to limit the damage – the only blot on the Swindon copybook was seeing Wright spin out just minutes after his race win.

Porsing and Niels-Kristian Iversen finally offered up some resistance in heat ten as they got the better of Morris and Batchelor but normal service was soon resumed as Ward dominated heat 11 whilst Summers survived a wobble to shut down Lindgren.

Number six Wright added more gloss to his display with a superb victory in the next race of the evening and even a floodlight failure seconds before the start of heat 13 couldn’t dim the mood in Blunsdon.

When the Abbey track was finally illuminated once again, Ward and Batchelor were bested by Iversen whilst Zengota and Morris were unable to pip Lindgren, but both heats finished as 3-3 draws.

The 15th followed suit – the Stars had long burned out whilst the Robins soared.
