SWINDON Robins team manager Alun Rossiter has said he will not rush into building his team for next season after this weekend’s British Speedway Promoters Association’s annual general meeting.

Despite both him and owner Terry Russell expressing their desires to get the new team pieced together sooner rather than later, Rossiter is not expecting any immediate announcements.

Instead the Robins boss wants to wait until the changes to the league are approved, which could happen at the beginning of November.

“I’m led to believe we are going to the AGM in a way of discussing what we want to do and then on November 3 we will go back and ratify everything,” he told the Adver.

“We make decisions and we think it is for the best and then we come away and think ‘we made a mistake there’ and it is too late then.

“Anybody shouldn’t go away and rush into building teams because it could not work.

“I will have an idea, but we will hold fire and we won’t go building our team too quickly. We rush and we always get berated for it.”

The Robins boss heads to the BSPA AGM today with a number of issues he wants to raise to see an improvement in the sport.

“I want to see a stronger league and continuity in the sport to help improve the gates,” he added.

“The fans don’t like the long gaps. I think it would be far better to get the season done and dusted early instead of having the long gaps because people then get out of the habit of going to speedway.

“I think the potential is there to have one set night for speedway, but how we would do it I don’t know.

“If we could get it and get the top riders in then I think everyone would want it and I think Friday is an option, with the exception of Wolves, who could still run on a Monday.

“I think it may happen one day, but as to next year, I don’t think it will because it needs a lot of planning.”
