FORMER Robins number one Peter Kildemand narrowly missed out on qualifying automatically for next year’s Speedway Grand Prix in Australia this morning.

The Dane needed to make up 14 points in the last meeting of the series in Melbourne to pip Poole Pirates’ Chris Holder to the eighth, and final, qualification place for 2016.

However, with Holder only scoring two points, 26-year-old Kildemand came up just short as his 13 points were not enough to book his place in the final race.

Kildemand secured three race wins to secure his place in the second semi-final at the Etihad Stadium with 12 points.

With the gap to Holder at four points at that stage, the Dane needed to make the final, at least, to earn the final berth for next season.

Kildemand went in semi-final two against, already crowned World Champion Tai Woffinden, Maciej Janowski and Neils-Kristian Iversen.

However, with Kildemand leading the race, Woffinden fell on the second bend of lap two and the race was brought back for a re-run, with the Brit being excluded.

Kildemand couldn’t repeat his fine start at the second time of asking and finished third behind Iversen and Janowski to see his Grand Prix hopes end in disappointing fashion.

The 26-year-old still has one last chance of making it into the GP series next year, having also missed out in the GP Challenge last month, if he is handed one of the four wildcard places.
