SWINDON Robins asset Jason Doyle had a lucky escape on Saturday after a dramatic crash in the Australian Grand Prix.
The 30-year-old is in a stable condition in Royal Melbourne Hospital after breaking his seventh cervical vertebrae and suffering a punctured lung.
The New South Wales-born racer tangled with eventual winner Greg Hancock in the first bend of the final at the Etihad Stadium.
The Aussie was briefly knocked unconscious before being carried from the track on a stretcher and treated by the RACESAFE medical team, before being transferred to the Royal Melbourne Hospital for further treatment.
Chief medical officer, Dr Greg Harris, said: “I can report that Jason is awake, alert and in a stable condition.
“As a result of the crash, he has sustained neck and chest injuries, which are stable. He will receive continued care over the coming days. He is in good spirits.”
Doyle tweeted yesterday thanking the fans for their support and a picture of him in a neck brace with his thumbs up.
