JASON Doyle says moving back to Swindon Robins is a ‘step in the right direction’ as he looks to strike the balance between work and his personal life.

The Aussie was announced yesterday morning as the Robins number one for the upcoming season, having spent two years away from the club with Leicester Lions.

The 30-year-old, who is still recovering from his crash in the final of the Melbourne Grand Prix, comes in on a 9.44 average but is not fazed by the pressure that will bring.

“I think in 2014 that pressure was on myself when I first went to Leicester,” Doyle told the Adver.

“They never mentioned that I was going to be number one and that was probably the best move that Leicester could have done for my career.

“It made me push really hard to keep that spot and I will be doing the same at Swindon because I know we have got some great riders.”

Doyle, who finished fifth in the Grand Prix series, believes he has grown since his last stint at the Abbey Stadium and hopes to show Robins fans what he can do next year.

“It was a massive change for myself in 2012 when I moved to Swindon from Poole and everything clicked into place,” he added. “It was a pretty good thing to start my career back again after all the problems I had with my shoulder.

“I think I have progressed slowly since then. I hope I am progressing. I have still got a lot to learn and every day is a school day I say when it comes to speedway.

“After 2012 you never know what is going to happen in your career.

“After riding in the Grand Prix series and trying to figure out what the best race night would be for myself and my racing and I think I have definitely made the right decision.

“To change clubs every so many years isn’t always the best thing but sometimes you can get complacent and you really need to try and enjoy your speedway.

“I think it will be a move that will show good positive things through-out next year.”

Robins team manager Alun Rossiter is delighted to welcome Doyle back to Swindon and hopes he can lead from the front.

“Since Leigh Adams left we haven’t had an out and out number one and having Darcy (Ward) last year just showed us what we were missing,” he said.

“He will be a different rider to the one who rode for us in 2012. He is maturing more and more every week and his game is up there.”
