SWINDON Robins team manager Alun Rossiter is hoping that the arrival of Jason Doyle will be the marquee signing that gets fans' appetites for the new season going.

Coming the day before the club announced their season tickets for the 2016 campaign, Doyle has already got people talking about what the world number five could bring to the side next year.

Having enjoyed the exploits of Darcy Ward for an all-too-brief spell last season, Rossiter was keen to bring in an out-and-out number one for next year and believes the arrival of Doyle sends out a clear message of intent.

“For me, this is a signing that just goes to show how serious we are,” he said.

“Bringing someone with the calibre of Doyle back to the club shows the fans that we mean business.

“If people don’t get excited by this then I would be pretty disappointed really.

“Every year, we always mean business, however some years, you put a team together and it probably doesn’t frighten people.

“I am sure other teams will be aware when Jason Doyle is in town - that’s for sure.”

Doyle comes in on a 9.44 average and with Justin Sedgman coming in at number two on a 4.70 average and the two reserves, Charles Wright (4.13) and Stefan Nielson (3.00), coming in at a combined 7.13 average, that leaves Rossiter with a points total of 19.23 to play with for his remaining three riders.

However, the Robins boss is confident he can put together a strong outfit for next season with what he has left.

“No, I don’t think so,” replied Rossiter when asked if Doyle’s arrival would impact heavily on who else he can bring into the side.

“I think now you understand why we got someone like Sedgman in.

“Not because of that reason but on his average and when you have someone with 9.44, you try and balance it out.”
