SWINDON Robins signing Justin Sedgmen saw his hopes of lifting the Victoria title in Australia ended this morning by a faulty chain.

Sedgmen, who has joined the Robins for the 2016 season, had stormed to a 15-point maximum in the qualifying heats, soundly beating main rivals Ty Proctor and Australian Under 21 champion Max Fricke, only for his luck to run out in the finale.

He said: "“I can hardly put into words how gutted I am. The night was going perfectly and for the chain to come off on the start line is very disappointing.

“I put in a lot of preparation for this meeting, it meant a lot to me to be the Victoria champion. I wanted to win it in front of my home town crowd and my family but it just wasn’t to be this year.”

He added: “I felt very fast, the bike was hooking up so well and I was getting a lot of speed. It’s the quickest I’ve felt since I’ve came home and I think its excellent preparation ahead of the Australian Championships.”

Former Wolverhampton star Ty Proctor clinched the title to qualify for a visa to race in Britain, with youngsters Brodie Waters and Jordan Stewart filling the rostrum places.
