ALUN Rossiter says he is working flat out to complete his Swindon Robins roster for 2016 and hopes to tie a deal down soon.

Australian Nick Morris was yesterday announced as the Robins’ sixth rider for next year’s Elite League campaign, meaning team manager Rossiter has just one slot left to fill with an average of 6.53 to work with.

Troy Batchelor’s departure from the Abbey Stadium was confirmed over the weekend after the former Swindon skipper signed for King’s Lynn Stars, and Rossiter has revealed that Grzegorz Zenogta will not be back at Blunsdon either.

Polish ace Zengota enjoyed a stellar return last season, finishing with an average of 7.79 and was named as Adver readers’ ‘Robins Rider of the Year’ as a result.

Rossiter is disappointed not to have been able to re-sign Zengota but admitted the arrival of Jason Doyle on a high average has forced him to make sacrifices elsewhere.

“We have got a couple of people we’re talking to so we are working on something. We hope to be able to get something done as soon as we can,” said Rossiter.

“I’m just doing the best job I can. We have looked at going down a few routes and I’m really pleased with the six I have got so far.

“Hopefully the seventh will finish us off nicely.

“I spoke to Zengi and, as he did so well last year, it was always going to be tough to do a deal again. Everyone knows it’s a juggling act.

“We’ve brought in Jason, who has got a 9.44 average, and Zengi has now got one that’s close to eight. It’s a tough job when it comes to building a team and it’s a shame.”

Morris’ re-signing takes him into a fifth straight season with Swindon and Rossiter is delighted to have kept hold of the 21-year-old.

The Aussie youngster will split his time with the Robins alongside riding for Sparta Wroclaw in Poland, having left Premier League side Glasgow Tigers.

Rossiter added: “It’s very nice to be able to do that one. He’s got better each year and that’s the reason we brought him here in the first place.

“He’s going to ride in Poland and that’s something he needed to do to take that next step. We’re pleased that he’s got that.

“It makes fixture clashes less likely but to be fair that wasn’t really a problem when he was at Glasgow anyway because we own him.”
