SWINDON Robins ace Nick Morris believes yesterday's victory in the second round of the Australian Championship has given him a huge chance of lifting the overall crown.

Morris secured victory in round two of the competition in Undera on Wednesday, leaving him just three points behind leader Sam Masters at the halfway stage of the competition.

The Blunsdon ace is now hoping that has given him the fillip necessary to go on and claim the bigger prize, with meetings in Gillman tomorrow (Friday), followed by Mildura on Saturday.

Morris said: "Things went really well in Undera and to win the meeting was a massive shot in the arm for my title chances.

“Winning the Championships would be so sweet but I want one of those Grand Prix qualifying spots and to really push on in 2016.

“I had a few issues in the opening round but I'm now looking forward to the final two rounds the weekend full of hope and a feeling that I can do something."

Meanwhile, 2016 Robins teammate Justin Sedgmen will ride in round three at Gillman, despite the shoulder injury that forced him to withdraw in Undera.

Sedgmen has suffered two heavy tumbles in the first two rounds at Kurri Kurri and Undera respectively, and has had physio on his injured shoulder, which sustained muscle damage.

But he said: “I’m going to race in Gillman, I have to get some pride back and climb up the standings in the last two rounds.

“My goal at the start of the championship was to win it, I thought that was a realistic goal like many others in the field. My goals have now changed and I have to make the top five to ensure I make one of the Grand Prix qualifying spots.

“I think this is still a realistic goal, Gillman and Mildura are tracks I know well and I think I have as good a chance as anyone to win one of the remaining rounds.

“I now think I’m in there as a bit of a spoiler. I know I’m not going to win it but I always have high expectations of myself and to win a round and claw my way back into the top five would be a huge achievement from the position that I am in at the moment.

“It’s going to a big ask. I’m still in a fair bit of pain but I will go out and give it a go and hopefully we can finish with a couple of satisfactory results.”

Robins' Josh Grajczonek also fell during Wednesday's meeting, suffering a minor blow to the head
