AFTER the washout on Easter Sunday, myself, Rosco and Nick went along to the hospital to hand out all of the leftover Easter eggs that we were planning to give out at the Abbey Stadium during the meeting with Poole.

It was pretty cool to be able to go to do something like that.

I have done a few similar things before but that was definitely good because we were all there and we got to meet some pretty special people.

It was amazing and nice to give the eggs out to the little kids that are sick and hear some of their stories, some of which were pretty deep.

There was one kid who has been in there for six months and there were others who were getting on for 16 and had hardly spent a year out of hospital, so it was definitely an eye-opener.

It was nice to put a smile on their faces and have a bit of fun with them.

Getting out in the community is something I personally think we should be doing a lot more of as a club and I think there are plans in the pipeline to do more events like this in the coming season.

I personally like it because I think any publicity is good publicity for the sport, for Swindon Robins, and for myself.

It is something that the club is going down the right direction to do.

If we can do a few more of those sort of events through the year and get more people involved, then it can only be a good thing for the club.

Obviously, sports like football do a lot more in the community but it is a bigger sport with a larger fanbase.

Not many kids can go out and buy a speedway bike but a lot of kids can go out and buy a soccer ball.

If we can get the awareness out there, then we can go in that direction to do more.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t cost anyone any money – just a bit of time – and it puts back in to the community and gets Swindon speedway out there in the public.

It was better than riding in the rain and hopefully we put some smiles on a few of the faces we met.
