SWINDON Robins team manager Alun Rossiter believes that there was no way to prevent yesterday’s call off after rain scuppered their home meeting with Wolverhampton Wolves.

The Robins saw their third meeting in just over a week postponed due to the weather following a day of showers in Swindon.

Despite the stop-start nature to Swindon’s campaign so far, Rossiter is adamant that there is little that can be done to avoid rearrangements with gates at risk of being hit.

“It is the right call,” he said.

“It is showering and then it stops and then it starts again. It is one of those days where there are a lot of isolated showers about.

“I don’t think there is anything that can be done to prevent these call-offs in the future. The problem is that it is forecast for showers until 8pm and if it is raining people won’t come out to watch the meeting so we are in a no-win situation.

“If they don’t come out then we don’t get the crowds through the gates and you end up doing your brains.

“It is alright getting the meeting on by having track covers but are people going to still come out if they are going to get wet.

“We have got a few dates where we can slot re-arranged fixtures in so we should be okay when it comes to sorting out any kind of fixture pile up.”

Swindon will now next be in action at Leicester Lions next Wednesday and while the start to the season has been far from ideal Rossiter knows that next week will be vital in gaining some impetus.

“It is very frustrating,” he added.

“We got on a bit of a run last week and it would have been nice to keep that momentum going but now we have got a bit of a break and we have to hit the ground running when we go to Leicester on Wednesday.

“We have got to go to Leicester now and make sure we get a win. They got beat by Lakeside last week so they will be looking to improve and we need to make sure we are on our game as well.

“It’s not going to be easy facing Wolves next week but hopefully we will have another meeting under our belt which will give us a bit of confidence.

“We’ve had two meetings so far, one where we were poor and one where we were very good.

“It is going to take time. It is a young side and they are learning every week so I think it is a team who will come strong towards the end.”
