ALUN Rossiter says Swindon Robins must return from Leicester Lions with a win this evening if they are to be considered genuine contenders for the Elite League play-offs in 2016.

Leicester have lost all four of their meetings so far this season and it would be a missed opportunity for Swindon if they were slip up at Beaumont Park.

Rossiter expects the Lions to show their teeth tonight, particularly in front of their own fans, but believes his side should be targeting success.

Robins skipper Jason Doyle will be making his first return to Leicester following his reunion with Swindon for 2016 and Rossiter expects a big performance from the Australian in the East Midlands.

“It’s not been a brilliant start for them and for us, it’s been one win and one loss, so hopefully we can be two wins and one loss after Leicester,” said Rossiter.

“I give everyone respect and as soon as you start saying this and that about another team, I find it can come back to bite you.

“We will go there respecting them as they are more than capable of winning, especially on their home track.

“But they have been struggling and we have got to go there and win if we have got hopes of making the play-offs.

“It’s a big night for Jason too and I am sure he is looking forward to going back.

“He will want to do well, especially with a few of the problems he had last year.

“It’s very good for us that we have got someone who knows that track so well.”

The fixture is the Robins’ first since they crushed Coventry Bees 55-35 almost a fortnight ago.

Swindon have had two meetings rained off since then and Rossiter is keen to get the team back together.

“It will just be nice to get on the bikes again. We need to get some riding done,” said Rossiter.

“We have had two meetings and they were quite far apart, so we’re just looking forward to getting going again now.”

There will be a familiar face in the Lions’ septet as they have drafted in Aaron Summers to replace Poland’s Grzegorz Walasek, with the Aussie making his debut tonight.

Summers finished last season with the Robins, helping them reach the Elite League play-offs, and Rossiter says only a rising average prevented him securing a permanent spot on his roster.

“It’s nice to see Aaron there. I’m really pleased for him,” added Rossiter.

“He did fantastic for us last season and rode really well.

“He deserved to get a chance in the Elite League and now he’s got one.

“It was purely down to mathematics, he probably rode himself out of a place because it became hard to fit him in.

“I’m sure he will want to prove a bit of a point to me.”
