SWINDON Robins became the first side to leave Beaumont Park without a point as they fell to a 50-42 defeat away to Leicester Lions.

Despite 15 points from skipper Jason Doyle, Swindon were unable to recover from a poor start and were always behind as they fell to their second defeat of the season.

Swindon, who had not been in action since their home win over Coventry Bees almost two weeks prior, had the privilege of naming an unchanged side, in stark contrast to the beginning of their last campaign.

Meanwhile, Leicester handed a debut to a familiar face at the Abbey Stadium, Aaron Summers, who had come in to replace Grzegorz Walasek.

A great start for Patrick Hougaard in heat one as he kept Doyle, who started in the outside gate, behind him out of bend two, with Justin Sedgmen struggling behind Nicolai Klindt to give the hosts an early advantage.

Josh Auty got the jump in heat two and he was followed by Paul Starke, with the latter coming out of the second bend in first spot having come around the outside for an early maximum for the Lions in the battle of the reserves.

Leicester continued their fine start in heat three as Sebastian Ulamek and Summers both got the better starts but Nick Morris fought back for second place out of the second bend with Josh Grajczonek struggling at the back.

Rohan Tungate got the first heat win of the night for the visitors in heat four as he made it to the first bend in the lead, however Wright saw his path shot off and fell to the back for a share of the spoils.

Leicester stretched their advantage to 10 points as Klindt lead out of bend two and Sedgmen did enough to keep Auty behind him.

Swindon used the tactical ride in the next heat and after a false start from Szymon Wozniak, Doyle got the start he wanted but went too deep coming out of bend two and Wozniak took advantage, with the Aussie pushing him all the way and Morris coming home in third.

Tungate continued his fine evening with his second win as he gated well from the outside to make it to the first bend ahead of the two Lions riders, but Grajczonek was unable to make it a heat win.

Swindon looked on course for their first maximum of the evening in heat eight as Sedgmen gated well and was followed by Wright, who was covering for Stefan Nielsen, but the reserve was struggling to hold onto his place and found the fence on bend four before being helped into the back of the ambulance holding his shoulder.

With Wright disqualified for the re-start, Wozniak got the best start of the remaining trio and Sedgmen was pushed out to the back and fought hard but couldn't get past Starke.

It was a second fall in as many races for the Robins as Tungate lost control of his bike coming out of bend two and took an awkward fall, but was able to walk off the track of his own esteem.

He was disqualified from the re-run but Wright was back on his feet to take to the tapes, however, he could not stop Auty and Klindt claiming a maximum to extend their lead to 16 points.

Swindon hit back straight away as Doyle claimed his first win of the evening in heat 10 to lead home Sedgmen for a maximum.

Hougaard couldn't control his start in heat 11 and Morris took advantage but Grajczonek couldn't take second and ended up losing out to Klindt for a share of the points.

Wright had a great start in heat 12 and was pushed all the way by both Lions riders before Auty went down in bend three of the penultimate lap, with the race awarded.

Despite Doyle claiming back-to-back wins in heat 13, Morris was unable to pick up any points to all but hand the victory to Leicester.

That first win of the campaign was wrapped up in the penultimate heat as Grajczonek finally found his first points of the evening but Wozniak secured the win with his second-place finish ahead of Tungate.

Wozniak was not giving up any ground to Doyle from the start of heat 15 and forced the Swindon skipper wide and as a result Hougaard and Morris ended up in the air fence on bend one.

All four made the re-run and it was Morris who was down at the first bend again.

At the third time of asking, Doyle got to the bend first again to take the win but again Morris could not find a way around Hougaard and Wozniak as Swindon missed out on a losing bonus point.
