Alun Rossiter reckons his Swindon Robins side proved exactly what they are capable of last night as they stormed to their second Elite League win of the season by trumping Belle Vue Aces 50-41.

The Robins won 11 of the 15 races on the night at the Abbey Stadium and had the overall victory wrapped up with three heats to spare.

Jason Doyle and Rohan Tungate led home maximums in the opening two heats of the night as the Robins set the tone from the off and it took Belle Vue up to heat six to register their first win, by which time they were already 14 points in arrears.

Skipper Doyle led the way with a 14-point haul, only denied a perfect night when he came second in the final race of the night, while fellow Australians Josh Grajczonek (9), Rohan Tungate (9+1) and Justin Sedgmen (9+1) all made valuable contributions themselves.

The victory atoned for back-to-back defeats for Swindon last week and team manager Rossiter believes the performance was even better than the 55-35 success at home to Coventry Bees three weeks prior – the Robins’ only previous victory this term.

“It was a great performance. We had a bit of a meeting before the start of the meeting and I had a chat with the boys,” said Rossiter.

“The potential has been there, we know that, we’ve just been starting too slow but tonight we got into gear from heat one. It sets the tone for the evening when the guys go out in the first one and get a 5-1.

“I think it was better than the Coventry win because Belle Vue are strong all the way through and to do what we did to them tonight was excellent.

“Both Justin and Rohan were very good. They were excellent and I am really pleased for the pair of them and hopefully they can carry this on now.”

Rossiter hopes his troops can carry their form into tonight’s meeting away at early league leaders Lakeside Hammers.

“It is going to be tough. It’s a tough place to go but the boys will be ready for it,” added Rossiter.

“They have hit the ground running. They have been tough to beat and they are always good on their home track so it’s going to be very tough there.”
