TEAM manager Alun Rossiter has praised the enthusiam shown by the Swindon Robins' new board as they look to build a bright future for the club.

A consortium of local businessmen, fronted by former Swindon Town director Mike Bowden, have a purchased a 50 per cent stake in the club, with their arrivals yesterday prompting the formation of a board of directors.

Bowden becomes the club’s CEO, Per-Axel Warensjo has been made financial director and Terry Russell, the owner of the remaining 50 per cent of the club, appointed as club chairman.

After the news was announced, Bowden spoke of his passion for the sport and Rossiter is delighted to have him and the rest of the consortium on board at Blunsdon.

“It’s a positive thing moving forward. We have got people with fresh ideas coming in and the more people who want to contribute financially, the better, rather than just having one person put their hand in their pocket the whole time,” said Rossiter.

“We have a new stadium on the horizon and now a new board, so it’s all positive for the club.

“You need people with that passion and commitment and a real interest in the sport, and that’s what we have got.

“It doesn’t change things for me. All it means is that we have got more people who want to try and push the club forwards and that can only be a good thing.”

The Robins face their first fixture under their new board this evening when they host Lakeside Hammers in the Elite League.

Having triumphed 50-42 away at Coventry Bees on Bank Holiday Monday, Rossiter is hoping to make it three wins on the spin following their victory over Belle Vue Aces at the Abbey Stadium a fortnight ago.

“Monday was a very good performance from the boys. We have had a few good performances now and just been a bit unlucky, so we are certainly going in the right direction,” said Rossiter.

“I think if we hadn’t lost to Wolverhampton at home, people wouldn’t have been panicking so much but we learned a lot from that meeting and we sat down and talked about what we needed to do, and saw the response next time against Belle Vue.

“We’ve started the last few meetings well and that’s what we need to do against Lakeside; try to put some pressure on early as we don’t want to be playing catch-up.

“We will be confident but not overconfident. They are a good team with some good riders. Everyone knows how good Andreas Jonsson is and Piotr Swiderski can be a bit of a danger man too.

“It is going to be a tough meeting but we have got to make sure we are on our game and come out with a positive result.”
