SWINDON Robins team manager Alun Rossiter says his side will savour their night after an historic win at the new National Stadium saw them go top of the Elite League.

There were big queues outside the entrances as the home fans hoped to kick off their stay at their new arena in fine fashion but Swindon were ready to spoil the party.

Rohan Tungate, who scored 15+2 on the night, led the charge for the visitors in the first league meeting to be held at Belle Vue Ace’s new home as they recorded a 50-40 victory to claim all four points.

The fourth win on the bounce puts Swindon on top of the tree and Rossiter says he will not let his side, who have taken their fair share of criticism early on, get too carried away by their fine run of form.

“I don’t think that was in the script,” he said.

“I certainly don’t think anybody was expecting that but I keep saying about this team that it is going to get better and better.

“They are just a team of battlers and full credit to them, they were fantastic.

“If I am honest, we are probably lucky that we came here early on. They are probably still not dialled in here and got the set up right but somebody has got to come here and race for the first time and we were fortunate it was us and we grabbed it with both hands.

“I don’t think we would have earned so much negativity if we hadn’t had the home defeat to Wolverhampton, where we had the track break down and it really played against us.

“The loss against them had everyone up in arms and starting to panic but the boys have shown a lot of character and come back strong and we have just got to keep going now and keep proving the doubters wrong.

“It feels fantastic to be top of the league.

“We won’t get carried away and will keep our feet on the ground and keep proving everybody wrong.

“When things are going well, I get praise, but as soon as it goes wrong, there are enough people ready to shoot me down. We won’t get carried away but we will certainly enjoy tonight.”
