JASON Doyle hopes a couple of days’ rest will help him to maintain his promising start to the Speedway Grand Prix campaign in Poland tonight.

Swindon Robins skipper Doyle missed Wednesday’s superb 50-40 Elite League success at Belle Vue Aces as he licked his wounds from a bruising week of racing in Poland and Sweden.

The 30-year-old Australian rider suffered a heavy fall while riding for Polish club Zielona Gora’s at Grudziadz on Sunday and then suffered more knocks in Rospiggarna’s Swedish trip to Indianerna on Tuesday.

He tweeted afterwards: “Sorry Swindon Speedway boys!! Body is getting old; can’t handle the big crashes like I used to! Few days rest and I’ll be back to 100%.”

Doyle was in practicing at the PGE Narodowy stadium yesterday, ahead of the Warsaw FIM Speedway Grand Prix, with the draw ensuring his first race will be in heat four.

The Robins ace enjoyed a successful start to the Grand Prix campaign, picking up 13 points and second spot behind former Swindon rider Peter Kildemand at the opening round - the Slovenian Grand Prix - a fortnight ago.

Kildemand says winning in Krsko was the ideal way to justify his permanent wildcard selection.

He told SpeedwayGP.com: “Getting the win makes you a little more comfortable.

“I got the wildcard for this year and someone believed in me, so it’s the best way you can start the season really.

“Of course it’s a special feeling to be top of the table.

“I know the season is going to be long and I am probably not going to stay there, but I’ll do all I can. If I can just get some good points all the way, that’ll be great.

“Going to Warsaw as the leader will be good fun. I had a really, really good night in Krsko. I went there with a rib injury and I wasn’t 100 per cent fit.

“I wasn’t comfortable with going there and saying I wanted to win. I just wanted to go and get some good points in the bank.

“But I ended up getting 15 (points) and the win, which was great.”
