STEFAN Nielsen is urging his Swindon Robins team to give their supporters something to smile about when they attempt to get back on track against the Leicester Lions tonight.

On Thursday, there was misery around the Abbey Stadium as the Robins slipped to a 47-43 defeat at the hands of the Elite League’s current basement boys and after a third loss on the spin, Alun Rossiter’s side renew hostilities with the Lions at Beaumont Park tonight (7.30pm start).

Reserve Nielsen, who this week received a donation from the Robins supporters’ club, is keen to restore the faith of Swindon fans and believes that his side can shake themselves out of their rut with a positive result on the road at Leicester.

“(Thursday’s loss) wasn’t what we were looking for, for sure, and I’m just disappointed for the fans,” said Nielsen.

“The fans come here and pay our wages, as such, and we couldn’t deliver when we should have.

“There are a lot of swings and roundabouts in speedway and we’ve been on a slump but hopefully we can think positive and we have to look forward to the next one.

“I don’t see any reason why we can’t go there and get the win there.

“We’ve got to look forward. There’s no point behind down in the dumps. We have to be positive and go there to win.

“Also, the supporters club at Swindon gave me a donation (on Thursday) so thank you to the fans.

“It’s a shame that we couldn’t get the win but I will be talking to the lads and hopefully we can get rid of this and make the next one a win, for sure.”

The Robins’ trip to Leicester will be their fourth meeting in the space of six days.

Nielsen added: “The speedway schedule is tough. I’ve had five meetings this week.

“It’s been tough but I’d just like to thank everyone behind me. The mechanics and the family support; I need that to be where I am today.

“It’s not just me, even though I’m the one on the bike. There are a lot of things behind the scenes that you have to appreciate at times, so thank you to them.”

The Robins will make a late decision on the fitness of Rohan Tungate, who withdrew from Thursday’s meeting with a recurrence of his shoulder injury.

Meanwhile, Swindon’s Justin Sedgmen is hoping that his schedule is about to get a lot more hectic after joining Polish outfit Falubaz Zielona Góra this week.

The 24-year-old had been signed to Latvian team Lokomotiv Daugavpils but will instead be joining Robins team-mate Jason Doyle at Ektraliga outfit Zielona Góra, the same team for whom Darcy Ward was riding in August last year when he suffered the crash that ended his career.
