SWINDON Robins threw their support behind the town’s hugely successful Armed Forces Day celebrations on Saturday.

Despite a few heavy showers, hundreds of Swindonians turned out to have fun and thank the armed forces for all they do.

Swindon team manager Alun Rossiter and young rider Anders Rowe rode bikes around the event arena, while plenty of people were keen to get a photo taken of themselves on a speedway bike, including members of the local police force.

Robins chief executive Mike Bowden said: “We are doing all we can to ensure that everyone in and around Swindon knows that they have one of the top speedway clubs in Britain right on their door step.

“We would be delighted to see many more mums, dads and children, as well as any members of our armed forces, at any of our future speedway meetings.

“Much like Saturday's event, everyone has a good time with a smile on their face. Speedway is a family sport, watched by sensible people – there is no trouble but be prepared for more than enough excitement.”

Commercial manager Stella Walton added: “The Robins are an integral part of the community of Swindon and we were delighted to play our part in supporting such an important event.

“We had fun meeting chatting to lots of speedway fans and we hope to welcome many new faces to the Abbey Stadium when we face Coventry Bees on Monday, July 4 in front of the Sky Sports TV cameras.

“We have reduced our entrance price to just £10 and hope to see a bumper crowd to see the team push for the league title. Any local or national business that would like exposure on live Sky Sports TV might like to get in touch.”
