SWINDON Robins lifted themselves back to second in the Elite League table after a resounding 55-36 win over Coventry Bees.

Having set out a statement of intent with a maximum in the first heat, Swindon continued that momentum through the meeting and recorded five heat maximums to dispatch their Elite League rivals.

At one point Alun Rossiter’s side had established a 22-point lead over their visitors as they lifted themselves up two places in the league.

Swindon were given the perfect start as Jason Doyle, fresh from his Grand Prix win, led home Rohan Tungate to give the hosts a maximum in the opening heat.

Josh Bates got away well and led into the first turn of heat two, with Charles Wright nestling in behind, while Stefan Nielsen battled hard to get past Kacper Woryna at the back.

Chris Harris showed his skill as he took the lead early on in heat three and Josh Grajczonek had to battle hard to hold on to second place from British champion Danny King.

Coventry looked to have had the starts nailed at the Abbey as James Sarjeant got away well but Justin Sedgmen was able to take him on the back straight of the second lap, with Nielsen settling for third.

Tungate continued his fine form as he took the lead ahead of Wright coming out of bend two for a comfortable maximum, with Josh Bates falling going into the penultimate corner of the heat.

In heat six, Sedgmen started well and kept Harris outside him around bend one, while Morris didn't have enough pace down the back straight to hold onto second spot and settled for third.

Doyle got away well in heat seven but went too deep into bend one. Fortunately it only allowed Grajczonek through and the Aussies switched places before the end of the first lap for a third maximum of the evening.

Selected as the tactical ride in heat eight, Bates got the start he wanted but, coming across from gate four, he could not get ahead of Sedgmen, with Nielsen battling hard for second but having to settle for third for a split of the points.

Heat nine was stopped after Kacper Woryna went into the air fence going into bend one.

All four riders were called back and Tungate was dialled in as he got another good start to take the lead, with Wright doing well to hold off Woryna in second place.

Morris jumped away from the line in heat 10 and was not looking back as Grajczonek had to hold off the challenge of both Coventry riders for second spot.

Coventry finally found some form away from the line in heat 11 as the formidable duo of Harris and King had too much for Doyle and Tungate for Coventry’s first maximum of the night.

At the second restart of heat 12, it was tight going into bend two and it was Wright who lost out as he lost control of his bike out of bend two.

Nielsen was then left with a big task but he did well and almost took the lead down the back straight as he pushed Woryna all the way, with Bates pulling out on the penultimate lap.

Doyle got a great start from gate four in heat 13 and moved across everyone to take the lead into bend one and was followed home by Harris.

In heat 14, King flew out of the gate but Morris kept him honest all the way, with Sedgmen unable to get past Sarjeant at the back.

Swindon almost finished in style as Sedgmen got away well and was followed into bend one by Morris, who did well to keep Harris behind him until the final bend when the Grand Prix rider stole second spot.
